Shanghai Culture Square Presents Major Western Musicals in Year-End Season

Shanghai Culture Square, the city's premier musical theater, is presenting four major Western musicals at year-end, highlighting Shanghai's position as China's most active market for such productions. The lineup includes Tony Award-winning 'The Producers,' which began its China tour in Shanghai on November 1, along with 'West Side Story,' 'Legally Blonde,' and 'Mozart l'opera rock.' Artistic director Fei Yuanhong noted this has become a tradition to offer diverse entertainment during the festive season. The theater, established in 2011, also engages audiences through lectures, workshops, and promotional activities, such as a dog casting event for 'Legally Blonde.' Broadway productions first appeared in China in 2002 with 'Les Miserables' at Shanghai Grand Theater, leading to increased popularity and dedicated venues for musicals.
