Shane Richie Banned from Driving Six Months After Speeding Conviction

On 23 September, Shane Richie, a 62-year-old actor recognized for his role as Alfie Moon in EastEnders since 2002, was handed a six-month driving ban after pleading guilty to a speeding violation. The Guildford Magistrates' Court imposed a £500 fine and an additional £320 for costs and a surcharge. The incident took place on 15 March when Richie was caught driving a Ford at 35mph (56km/h) on Reigate Hill, a steep road near the M25 junction. In a court statement, he expressed remorse but linked his speeding to relentless media attention during his 'very public divorce.' Richie, whose real name is Shane Roche and who resides in Tadworth, Surrey, is also set for a trial on 17 November 2027 regarding an alleged drink-driving incident on 29 July in Harlow, Essex, where he reportedly provided a breath sample of 65mcg of alcohol per 100ml, exceeding the legal limit of 35mcg. He denied this charge at Colchester Magistrates' Court earlier in September.
