Shakespeare Immersive Exhibition Opens at Castello Carlo V in Lecce

An immersive exhibition titled 'La materia dei sogni – Mondi e visioni dall’opera di Shakespeare' has opened at the Castello Carlo V in Lecce, Italy, running from July 17, 2026 to January 10, 2027. Curated by Peter Bottazzi and Silvia Rigon, the show transforms the castle's underground spaces into a dreamlike journey through Shakespeare's life and works. All installations, sculptures, video works, and soundscapes were conceived and built by the curators over months, involving contributors worldwide. The exhibition is promoted by the Castello Svevo di Bari in collaboration with the Shakespeare Institute. It features seven major installations, including 'La Barca di Prospero' (Prospero's Boat), symbolizing the global voyage of Shakespeare's works, with recordings of sonnets and plays read in multiple languages. Other sections include 'Laboratorio Shakespeare' with biographical documents, 'Attraverso le Parole' honoring the First Folio editors John Heminges and Henry Condell, 'Il Fantastico' with videomapping and songs from Macbeth and The Tempest, 'Radio Shakespeare', 'Soliloquio' focusing on Hamlet's 'To be or not to be', and 'Tra le crepe del potere' exploring power conflicts. The title quotes Prospero's line from The Tempest: 'We are such stuff as dreams are made on.'
