Serpentine Reveals 2027 Programme With Pierre Alechinsky Centenary Show, Adrian Piper and Matt Copson

exhibition · 2026-10-21

Serpentine has announced a 2027 slate of solo exhibitions spanning several generations of artists, staged from its base within The Royal Parks in London. The centrepiece is a Pierre Alechinsky presentation running February to April 2027, timed to the artist's centenary year. Born in Brussels in 1927 and now working from Bougival, France, Alechinsky is the last living figure from Cobra, the brief but highly consequential European avant-garde grouping. Organised in close dialogue with the artist himself, the show will be his first major solo outing at a UK public institution. Alongside Alechinsky, the programme includes solo projects by Adrian Piper and Matt Copson, whose practices the institution frames as testing the limits of media and opening fresh modes of expression. Public art presentations form part of the season as well. Serpentine describes the year as an effort to build links between artists and audiences while extending its long-standing aim of placing art within daily life, a mission tied to its parkland site. Further scheduling details beyond the Alechinsky dates were not disclosed in the announcement.
