Self-Taught Sculptor Thaddeus Mosley Passes Away at Age 99

Thaddeus Mosley, a self-taught sculptor from Pittsburgh, died on March 6 at his home at the age of 99. His family, including son and city councilor Khari Mosley, announced his passing. Mosley created abstract wooden sculptures for over 70 years, gaining international recognition late in life with exhibitions at institutions like the Musée National Eugène Delacroix in Paris and the Nasher Sculpture Center. Born in New Castle, Pennsylvania in 1926, he worked as a mail sorter while developing his art, which he described as 'sculptural improvisation' influenced by jazz, Constantin Brancusi, and Isamu Noguchi. His work achieved wider attention after being featured in the 2018 Carnegie International exhibition.
