Sedimented Landscapes: Urban Abstraction at Galería Landaburu

On June 12, 2026, Galería Landaburu in Madrid opened the group exhibition 'Sedimented Landscapes,' featuring Nikoleta Kiapidou, Salvaje Selva, Gerbos, and Germán Bel/Fasim. The show explores landscape as a site for pictorial experimentation, merging urban experience, material memory, and contemporary abstraction. It traces a lineage from 1970s–80s New York graffiti—citing pioneers like Rammellzee, Futura 2000, A-One, and JonOne—to the evolution of abstract graffiti in Spain, where artists have moved from street walls to studio practice while retaining urban dynamics of observation and appropriation. Each artist approaches landscape not as literal representation but as accumulation of experiences, traces, and layers: Kiapidou builds organic surfaces through superimposed textures and glazes; Salvaje Selva translates graffiti structures into abstract compositions emphasizing color and planar tension; Gerbos incorporates reclaimed materials and underground references, expanding painting into sculpture and urban intervention; Germán Bel/Fasim develops a pareidolia-based language, creating mental landscapes between abstraction and figuration.
