Second José Lamiel Contemporary Art Competition Announced with Prizes and Exhibition
The Grupo de Estudios Calandinos (GREC) and Calanda's Town Council have launched the II Certamen de Arte Contemporáneo José Lamiel, honoring the late painter and sculptor José Lamiel (1924–2020). Open to adult artists residing in Spain, the competition accepts one work per entrant in any theme or technique within the plastic and visual arts. Submissions must be made online by May 15, 2026, via email to premiartejoselamiel@calanda.es, including an entry form, artistic CV, statement, and photographs. Two cash prizes are offered: the Premio José Lamiel awards €1,400, an individual exhibition with a catalog at the Centro Buñuel Calanda, and a memento of Lamiel's work, while the Premio GREC provides €1,000. Both winning pieces will enter the collections of the Ayuntamiento de Calanda and GREC, respectively. Additionally, three honorary mentions will be granted based on criteria like innovation and artistic quality. Selected works will be featured in a group exhibition at the Centro Buñuel Calanda from July 4 to August 30, 2026.
