Scott & Scott Architects Complete Fernwood Studio House in Victoria

architecture-design · 2026-06-02

Scott & Scott Architects have completed the Fernwood Studio House, a live-work residence in Victoria, British Columbia, for clients Hoyu Hsu and Nathan Martell. The angular, three-storey house on a 454-square-metre lot near Fernwood Square combines commercial and residential uses, including a street-facing studio for Martell, a two-bedroom rental suite, and three bedrooms. Completed before the pandemic, the design features a double-height living space with plywood millwork, yellow cedar cladding, and locally sourced materials. The architects obtained variances for a reduced setback and an extra storey. The project reflects early signature elements of the firm's work.
