Science Museum launches trail inspired by Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey

The Science Museum in London has launched a self-guided trail titled 'Epic Journeys,' inspired by Christopher Nolan's film The Odyssey, now showing at the museum's IMAX: The Ronson Theatre. The trail features six objects representing extraordinary journeys. Stop 1 is a 1:64 scale model of the SS Oceanic (1899), the last British transatlantic liner launched in the 19th century, built for White Star Line. Stop 2 is a Cannondale bike used in the London Ambulance Cycle Response Unit, created by BMX champion Tom Lynch MBE. Stop 3 is Henry Sutton's magnetic compass and sundial (1650-1665), made by the London instrument maker who died in the plague of 1665. Stop 4 is a Smiths De Luxe wristwatch worn by Sir Edmund Hillary during his 1953 Mount Everest summit with Tenzing Norgay. Stop 5 is Amy Johnson's Gipsy Moth aeroplane Jason I, flown solo from Great Britain to Australia in 1930. Stop 6 is a full-size engineering model of the BepiColombo spacecraft, a joint mission to Mercury by ESA and JAXA, launched in October 2018 and arriving in November 2026.
