Schulz und Schulz Completes Mother of Pearl Experience Museum in Adorf/Vogtland, Germany

In Adorf/Vogtland, Germany, the Perlmutter Museum, also known as the Mother of Pearl Experience Museum, has been finalized, with design work by Schulz und Schulz. Completed in 2025, this 2,013 m² facility boasts a net floor area of 1,112 m² and a gross volume of 5,869 m³. It stands as the sole museum in the world focused on freshwater pearl mussels, pearl fishing, and mother-of-pearl artistry. The museum's objective is to bolster local identity and stimulate growth in the face of issues such as an ageing demographic and economic downturn. The project team includes Christoph Untch, Christian Wischalla, Jana Unbehauen, and Sarah Ahner, with KOCMOC.NET GmbH handling exhibition design. Contributions came from various engineering and manufacturing companies, with photography by Gustav Willeit and Albrecht Voss.
