Schemata Architects Restores Linden House Guesthouse in Irish Rainforest
In Glengarriff, Ireland, Schemata Architects has transformed Linden House, a guesthouse nestled within the Dromgarriff Rainforest, by introducing a new yoga studio made of timber and steel that connects two existing stone-and-slate structures. This guesthouse is situated in a 39-hectare protected woodland area. After acquiring the property in 2022, the new owners initiated a rewilding project, evolving the guesthouses into a wellness retreat. The redesign features communal areas on the ground level and six ensuite bedrooms, all with views of Bantry Bay. The yoga studio boasts exposed stone walls and a sawtooth roof equipped with skylights and solar panels. Jo Nagasaka, the founder, highlighted the distinctive spatial experience resulting from the buildings' angles. Plans may also involve rebuilding a former hotel on the premises.
