Scarlet House by Frederico Zanelato: A Classic Bahia Retreat in Porto Seguro

Scarlet House, designed by Brazilian architecture firm Frederico Zanelato | Arquitetos, is a 387-square-meter residential project completed in 2022 in Porto Seguro, Brazil. The house was commissioned by a friend and long-time client with a specific request: a classic Bahia house. The architects, who have spent years designing spaces along the beaches of southern Bahia, drew on their firsthand experience of the region's climate and lifestyle to inform the design. The project is characterized by its response to constant sun, minimal rain, and intense heat softened by sea breezes, creating an ideal setting for gatherings with friends and family. The design team included coordinator Frederico Zanelato, with collaboration from Geraldo Leal, Marcelo Marchesini, Sergio Faraulo, and Israel Ferreira. Construction was carried out by Projetareng. The project was curated by Susanna Moreira and photographed by Oka Fotografia. The house exemplifies a contemporary interpretation of traditional Bahian architecture, blending local materials and techniques with modern sensibilities.
