Sasha Vinci's 'Trilogy of Shadows' concludes at Venice Biennale with light sculptures and a musical map of Palestine

Sasha Vinci's 'Trilogy of Shadows' concludes at the 61st Venice Biennale with 'La Luce delle Ombre', a site-specific solo show at Gervasuti Foundation at Supernova (Cannaregio 3218/A), open June 13–21, 2026, with a one-time performance on June 12 at 18:30. The project originated from the demolition of an illegal building in Scicli, Sicily, which obscured the rock church of Santa Maria di Piedigrotta. The first act, 'Il Peso delle Ombre', was the demolition itself, transforming the site into a cultural hub called 'Teatro Vivo' using reclaimed materials. The second act, 'La Terra delle Ombre', was presented at the Tanzania Pavilion under 'Minor Frequencies: The Inner Life Of A Nation', curated by Lorna Benedict Mashiba and Martina Cavallarin. The third act features 'Il Canto della Palestina', a musical composition created with Vincent Migliorisi that transcribes the 1946 Palestinian border into a unresolved melody on the note FA. The installation also includes suspended light sculptures of constellations visible over both Venice and Gaza on the summer solstice (June 21, 2026), using Wood's light. The opening performance inverts the Scicli Easter tradition of 'Uomo Vivo', with Vinci carrying a metal structure symbolizing the risen Christ's halo while the Palestinian song plays. The project is supported by Artesicura. Vinci's work has previously been shown at the Reggia di Caserta, MANN in Naples, Silpakorn University in Bangkok, and New York University.
