Sarah Burton Debuts Givenchy Menswear with Rachel Whiteread

Sarah Burton presented her debut menswear collection for Givenchy Spring/Summer 2027 in a static installation featuring artworks by Rachel Whiteread. The presentation took place in Hubert de Givenchy's original salons, emphasizing continuity with the house's heritage. Burton merged men's and women's ateliers by literally knocking down walls, allowing tailoring from the menswear line to appear on women in March. Key pieces included double-breasted cashmere pinstripes, Prince of Wales checked suits, and tracksuits in neon brights inspired by Whiteread's beach detritus casts. Burton reinterpreted Hubert de Givenchy's 1950s concept of separates, stripping the frills from the iconic Bettina blouse to create a mannish shirt. Vermeer-inspired embroidered flowers from an evening gown were transferred to a flamboyant coat. Tailoring was central, with evening tuxedos and overcoats featuring abstracted lapels. Whiteread contributed two wardrobe-based works to the installation. Burton's collection was praised as some of the best of the season, offering a feminine hand to traditional men's suiting.
