Santnerpass Hut in the Dolomites: A Galvanised Steel Refuge Above the Clouds

Situated at an elevation of 2,734m in Italy's Dolomites, Rifugio Passo Santner, also known as Santnerpass Hut, was initially constructed in 1956. After undergoing reconstruction by Senoner Tammerle Architects, it reopened in the summer of 2023. The hut's architecture is designed to efficiently shed snow and redirect winds, while large windows provide ample natural light and support passive solar heating. With a capacity for 40 guests across 16 rooms, it specializes in vegetarian meals. Prices begin at €105 per person per night, which includes breakfast and a four-course dinner. Visitors can reach the hut via the König Laurin cable car, followed by a two-to-three-hour hike that includes a via ferrata section. Co-owned by chef Michel Perathoner and Romina Huber, the hut offers stunning views of the Latemar group and the enrosadira.
