Samuel Salcedo's Sculptures Explore Emotional Ambiguity Through the Human Face

Samuel Salcedo, born in Barcelona in 1975, pursued Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona, graduating in 1998, and also studied at Manchester Metropolitan University. He initially worked as a painter before shifting to sculpture, utilizing materials such as polyester resin, polyurethane, epoxy, aluminum, bronze, iron, and foundry sand. His creations amplify heads and isolate faces, transforming everyday expressions into monumental forms, emphasizing awkward and vulnerable moments over idealization. Reflective elements like polished aluminum and polychromy invite viewer interaction. Since the late 1990s, Salcedo has showcased his work in cities including Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Berlin, and Miami. His sculptures are part of collections like Fundación La Caixa and the Salsali Private Museum. Recent exhibitions at Moco Museum in Barcelona highlight his prominence in his native city, where he continues to create.
