Samuel de Saboia's 'The Aesthetics of Possibility' at Maruani Mercier

Brazilian multidisciplinary artist Samuel de Saboia presents his latest exhibition 'The Aesthetics of Possibility' at Maruani Mercier. The show features a darker, denser body of work that the artist describes as a 'self-revolution' after years of layering and dismembering his practice. De Saboia's paintings, such as 'God of Freethinkers' (2026), blend abstraction and figuration with instinctive yet structured lines. His background in theatre, dance, music, architecture, and design informs the restless physicality of the works. The artist draws on Black queer identity, Afro-Indigenous heritage, spirituality, and displacement, treating painting as a medium of incantation rather than narrative. Music and performance shape the rhythm, with compositions built through echo and delay. De Saboia aims to create 'a zone of no explanation'—a space of pure presence.
