Samsung Unveils P9 and P7 Portable SSDs with USB4, Up to 8TB

Samsung has introduced two new portable SSDs, the P9 and P7, featuring USB4 connectivity and significantly faster speeds. The P9 is the flagship model, offering sequential read speeds up to 4,000 MB/s and write speeds up to 3,800 MB/s, roughly twice as fast as the previous generation. It is also the world's first 8TB USB4 portable SSD. The P7 offers the same peak speeds but is positioned for everyday use, with a less robust thermal design and fewer optimizations for sustained writes. Both drives are drop-resistant up to two meters. They will be available starting in early September in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB capacities, with the P9 priced from $339.99 to $2,699.99 and the P7 from $289.99 to $2,289.99. The launch comes amid rising flash memory prices, which have increased the cost of existing models like the T9.
