Samantha Everton's 'THIRTEEN' Opens at Arthouse Gallery, Sydney
Samantha Everton, a photographer based in Melbourne, showcases her exhibition THIRTEEN at Arthouse Gallery in Sydney, running from 17 September to 10 October 2026. This series captures thirteen-year-olds as they navigate domestic spaces transformed by spectacle, featuring bejeweled foods, cult toys, fantastical creatures, and oversized insects, likened to unwelcome legacies. Everton’s carefully arranged scenes delve into a culture of excess, where playful childhood symbols become monstrous. The imagery resonates with the aesthetics of fantasy and fairytales, yet carries a subtle sense of discomfort. Following this, a second display will occur at Anthea Polson Art in Queensland from 30 January to 13 February 2027. The exhibition features Everton's Suite of Desire (detail), 2026, a 115 × 90cm pigment ink on cotton rag, provided by the artist and Arthouse Gallery, Sydney.
