Sagrada Família’s tallest tower inaugurated with drone light show honoring Gaudí

Pope Leo XIV inaugurated the Sagrada Família’s Tower of Jesus Christ, the basilica’s final and tallest tower, completed in February 2026. At 566 feet, it makes the Barcelona temple the tallest Christian church in the world. During the ceremony, a light show featured a drone portrait of Antoni Gaudí, who designed the church 144 years ago. The drones also formed Gaudí’s quote “Primer l’amor, desprès la tècnica” (First love, then technique). The event coincided with the centenary of Gaudí’s death. The blessing included illuminated stained glass projections, a children’s chorus, and geometric candles held by attendees. The tower was lit for the first time, bathing the church in golden light. A fireworks display concluded the show.
