Ryuichi Sakamoto's KAGAMI+ Mixed-Reality Piano Work Opens at VS. Osaka and Kansai Airport
The mixed-reality initiative KAGAMI+, created by Ryuichi Sakamoto in collaboration with Tin Drum, is currently showcased at VS. in Osaka until October 12, 2026, located in Umekita Park within Grand Green Osaka. Attendees don transparent headsets to immerse themselves in a 3D rendition of Sakamoto's piano performance. This project, spearheaded by Todd Eckert of Tin Drum, first debuted at The Shed in New York in 2023. KAGAMI+ enhances audience engagement with pre-recorded concerts, highlighting the influence of technology on musical experiences. Additionally, a related exhibit at Kansai International Airport features a grand piano that interprets Sakamoto's performance data, accompanied by LED screens. The VS. exhibition is open from June 27 to October 12, 2026, with timed entries available from 10am to 8pm, closed on Mondays.
