Ruth Evans's Colorful Victorian Terrace Home Showcases Her Art Collection

Art collector and author Ruth Evans has completed her third renovation of a Victorian terrace in north London, working with interior designer Mika Burdett to create a vibrant backdrop for her extensive art collection. The house features works by Julian Opie, Howard Hodgkin, Joan Miró, Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse, Maggi Hambling, Shepard Fairey, Swoon, and Boo Ritson. Evans, who has lived in the house for 30 years, used a paint color-matching service and inexpensive venetian blinds from high-street stores like Ikea and Habitat. She advises negotiating prices in the art market, having learned from overpaying for a Warhol screenprint of Ingrid Bergman. The renovation improved spatial flow, storage, and natural light, including a new window in the kitchen. Evans emphasizes that color and art bring joy and harmony to her home.
