Russell Perkins Examines Financialization of Culture in First UK Solo Show

The Public Gallery in London is showcasing "Fear of Falling," which is Russell Perkins' first solo exhibition in the UK. Originally from Chicago and now living in London, Perkins explores the intersection of culture and financial systems through this exhibition. One highlight is "Static" (2024), a six-channel audio and film project he created with Charlie Culbert, featuring electoral broadcasts from the 1970s to present, using wind sounds recorded from a tree outside his bedroom. Another piece, "Safe Harbor" (2022-6), is a collection of quarterly earnings calls from S&P 100 companies, turned into a poetic collage with Hoang Nguyen and David Gobber. Perkins, a Rhodes Scholar, has shown his work internationally and won several prestigious awards.
