Rupert Grint to Return as Ron Weasley in Broadway's Cursed Child

Rupert Grint, known for playing Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films, will reprise the role in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The actor, now 38, will join the cast for four months starting February 2, 2026, at the Lyric Theatre in New York. Grint was first cast as Ron at age 11 and appeared in all eight films from 2001 to 2011. The play is set 19 years after the original story, with Ron and Hermione married and sending their daughter to Hogwarts. Grint expressed excitement about returning to the character, noting the full-circle nature of playing Ron as a father. He is the only one of the three main stars to return, though Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, is currently in the same production until January 3, 2026. Grint's Broadway credits include It's Only a Play (2014). Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender praised his performances as defining loyalty and bravery for generations. Grint's return follows his recent comments about never stepping out of Ron's shadow, and his previous legal battle over a £1.8m tax bill.
