Rudolf Leitner-Gründberg's Site-Specific Antologica at Polirone Monastery

From June 6 to September 27, 2026, the Polirone monastic complex in San Benedetto Po, Mantua, hosts a solo exhibition by Austrian artist Rudolf Leitner-Gründberg (born 1955), titled 'Il senso della grandezza' (The Sense of Greatness). Curated by Paola Artoni, Peter Assmann, and Paolo Bertelli, the show is organized by Associazione Postumia with patronage from the Municipality of San Benedetto Po and international partners. It features over fifty works, including oil paintings and large-scale interventions, many using gold leaf. This is the largest retrospective of the artist in Italy. The exhibition unfolds across the monastery's spaces: the Refectory for immersive large-format works, the Chapter Room and Gallery for medium-sized pieces, and the Museum and monumental staircase for a perceptual expansion. The monastery, historically linked to Matilde di Canossa, becomes an active part of the artwork. A volume published by Art Book, with photographs by Marina Tomasi and graphic design by Elena Carina Doria, accompanies the exhibition.
