Ruby/Dakota Gallery Closes Physical Space, Reopens with Two Shows

Gallerist Hannah Studnick announced the closure of Ruby/Dakota's physical space in early March 2026 via an Instagram video. The gallery's name originated from a family joke about avoiding difficult emotions. After closing, Ruby/Dakota has mounted two exhibitions. The first, "How to Escape a Whirlpool," co-organized with Emily Saltman at Kravets Wehby Gallery (521 West 21st Street, New York), runs through July 17, 2026, and features works by Noel W. Anderson, Claudia Bitrán, Laura Collins, Jackson Daughety, Anna Pederson, Katherine Sepúlveda, Aaron Michael Skolnick, and Orli Swergold. Bitrán's portraits of Britney Spears and Skolnick's paintings morphing into Liza Minnelli are highlighted. The second, "It's More the Way It Is Now Than It's Ever Been," co-organized with Tamara Pasternack at Art Cake (Studio 10, 241 40th Street, Brooklyn), runs July 10–29, 2026, featuring Austin Li Chang, David Fix Jr., and Erica Newton. Studnick's practice emphasizes adaptation and collaboration over permanent space.
