Rubin Museum Expands Himalayan Art Across NYC for Summer 2026

The Rubin Museum, now operating a global museum model, is presenting Himalayan art across New York City in summer 2026 with projects in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. At the Brooklyn Museum, the Rubin Tibetan Buddhist Shrine Room features over 100 works and ritual objects from the Rubin collection, displayed as in an elaborate private household shrine, offering a space for contemplation. In Jackson Heights, Queens, a temporary public art sculpture titled About a Living Culture by Nepalese artist IMAGINE (Sneha Shrestha) is commissioned with the NYC Department of Transportation Art Program and located in Diversity Plaza, celebrating her Nepalese heritage and the Himalayan cultures of the neighborhood. On the High Line in Manhattan, a free monthly lecture and guided meditation series is presented in partnership with the High Line, hosted by Tashi Chödrön, the Rubin's Himalayan cultural programs and communities ambassador, supporting Tuan Andrew Nguyen's High Line Plinth artwork The Light That Shines Through the Universe. As part of West Side Fest, families can attend an art workshop inspired by mandalas from the Rubin collection.
