Royal Copenhagen revives Arje Griegst's 'Triton' porcelain collection at 3 Days of Design

exhibition · 2026-06-08

Royal Copenhagen is relaunching Arje Griegst's 'Triton' collection at 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen. The shell-like porcelain vessels, originally launched in 1976, were inspired by Greco-Roman mythology and the sea. Griegst, a goldsmith by trade, developed the pieces using a beeswax casting technique adapted for porcelain, a painstaking process aided by technicians from Royal Copenhagen. The collection became a cult object among collectors. The 2026 editions include a tureen, deep plate, large dish, dinner plate, and bonbonnière, with new underglaze colors Sand, Ocean, and Celadon developed from Griegst's archive. Craftsman Bo Jørgensen, who worked on the original as an apprentice, restored and recreated the moulds before retiring. Creative director Jasper Toron Nielsen, who joined in 2023 from fashion roles at Burberry, Givenchy, Brioni, and Tom Ford, spearheaded the revival. The collection blurs boundaries between porcelain dinnerware and art. Noam Griegst, the artist's son and a photographer, collaborated on the project. Arje Griegst, born in 1938 in Copenhagen to a Lithuanian-Jewish family, taught at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem and died in 2016. The collection is available from June 10, 2026, at Royal Copenhagen's flagship store and online. Royal Copenhagen is owned by Fiskars and has production facilities in Thailand and Copenhagen.
