Routemaster buses transformed into Playdeck playgrounds

R.U.A Studio has introduced a concept for repurposing retired London Routemaster double-decker buses into innovative intergenerational playgrounds named Playdeck. These buses transform into climbing structures, gathering areas, and stations for music, movement, and creative play. Playdeck can either replace a single row of street parking or revitalize neglected public spaces in underserved areas. This initiative aligns with the Davidson Prize theme 'Changing the Game: Building Play into Housing,' which encourages the incorporation of play into residential environments. Advocating for adaptable play areas within existing neighborhoods, the project promotes social interaction and addresses the challenges of public space and limited opportunities for unstructured outdoor activities. The buses can also move between communities, utilizing underused streets and parking spaces temporarily.
