Rotor Graz Opens Mythological Group Show 'The Giant Bird'

Rotor Graz presents 'A Parable for Endings and Beginnings We Don't Know Yet, Part 1: The Giant Bird', curated by Margarethe Makovec and Anton Lederer, from 29 May to 5 September 2026 (closed 2–23 August). The exhibition is the first in a series inspired by philosopher Báyò Akómoláfés lecture on mythological creatures, focusing on the Giant Bird Ziz, which connects air and earth. Twelve artists and collectives contribute works across seven rooms, including Ernst Koslitsch's towering figures from construction formwork, Aliz Farkas's sheep's fleece world map, Elisabeth von Samsonow's response to a wind farm threat to eagles, and a hybrid creature in the atrium made by Catherina Jarau, Anna Mora Moll, and Laila Reichenpfader. The AYOCOTL Seed Library for All launches in the café, distributing seeds on a return-more-than-taken basis. A parklet on Orpheumgasse invites visitors to pause. The exhibition closes and reopens, with at least one work designed to change during the gap.
