Rothschild & Co’s “Materials” Exhibition Explores the Hidden Lives of Commodities

The Rothschild & Co Switzerland Exhibition Series has reached its fifth iteration, named “Materials,” currently displayed at the company’s Swiss headquarters. Curated by Jonathan Levy, this exhibition showcases the work of ten contemporary artists who examine the narratives surrounding objects and value systems, inspired by the Rothschild family's legacy in commodities. Featured artists include Anthea Hamilton, Lorenza Longhi, Hugh Scott-Douglas, Lucie Stahl, Marie Matusz, Sarah Staton, Fabian Reetz, Kelly Tissot, and Min Yoon. Their diverse creations—spanning sculpture, photography, installation, painting, and video—highlight the relationship between materials, labor, and economics. Since its inception in 2021, the exhibition has promoted cultural dialogue and emphasized contemporary European artists, intertwining art, history, and critical thought.
