Rosa Klerkx's '216' at Perrotin London: A Numerical Pilgrimage

Rosa Klerkx's solo exhibition '216' opened on 1 September 2026 at Perrotin London, presented as part of the Claridge's Royal Academy Schools Art Prize, which she won in autumn 2025. The exhibition stems from a numerical system inspired by Plato's Republic, which determined the town she would visit repeatedly for 216 hours. The number 216, being six cubed, references Plato's 'nuptial number' from the Republic. The centerpiece is a three-channel film shot in a disused building in the town, featuring local residents performing a choreographic score individually. The work also includes 35mm photographs printed using sunlight, with exposure times adjusted to weather conditions, and a new composition for euphonium by Klerkx. Klerkx, born in Amsterdam in 1996, studied at Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools. Her earlier work 'System for Interpretation' involved non-dancers following instructions. The Claridge's Royal Academy Schools Art Prize, now in its third year, awards £30,000 and a solo exhibition. The judging panel included Chantal Joffe RA, Roger Hiorns RA, and Claudette Johnson RA. Previous winners include Daria Blum (2024) and Jame St Findlay (2025). The exhibition runs until 26 September 2026 at Perrotin London, via Claridge's, Brook's Mews.
