In response to the floods in Chiang Mai, Thailand, occurring in 2024, the local studio ROOF RAIN has created Sala Kin Khao, a pavilion measuring 27 square meters that integrates flood resilience into everyday life. Known as the 'Dining Pavilion,' it offers amenities such as hygiene facilities, storage, and an open kitchen to encourage social gatherings. The design is based on a 3 x 3-meter modular grid made from locally sourced six-meter steel sections, with over 80% of the construction employing dry methods. Elevated 70 centimeters above the ground, the structure provides protection against flooding. Its exterior features matte-black corrugated fire-resistant asphalt sheets and repurposed antique timber frames, merging durability with historical elements for disaster readiness.
