Romane de Watteville's 'I'll miss you when I scroll away' at Istituto Svizzero, Milan

Romane de Watteville presents 'I'll miss you when I scroll away,' an environmental installation at Istituto Svizzero in Milan, on view until July 4, 2026. The exhibition features disproportionately long folding screens painted on both sides, creating a maze-like structure that echoes the narrative logic of online scrolling while referencing pre-digital sequential storytelling. De Watteville's figurative paintings draw from art-historical iconographies, cinematic motifs, and everyday imagery from fashion and design, filtered through the fragmentation of screen-based culture. The scenes depict the aftermath of a party, with remnants of a lavish dinner scattered and trampled, visited by grotesque figures. The work explores excess drifting into entropy, between prosperity and self-indulgence, celebration and collapse. Discarded objects gain agency, revealing emotional residues and instant nostalgia shaped by the ruthless temporality of consumption. Curated by Lucrezia Calabrò Visconti.
