ROM to Present Exhibition on Canada's Longest-Running Residential School

The 'Stolen Childhoods' exhibition at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in Toronto will explore the history and effects of the Mohawk Institute Indian Residential School, which is the longest-operating institution of its type in Canada. Organized by the Survivors' Secretariat, this exhibition opens on September 8 and will be available until October 1, 2026. It includes an interactive installation featuring archival materials, photographs, video interviews with Survivors, and a digital timeline that spans more than 140 years. Founded in 1828 by the New England Company in Brantford, Ontario, the Mohawk Institute's Survivor Wilma Snake highlighted the exhibition's importance in fostering understanding and awareness among Canadians about the lived experiences of those affected. This initiative is part of broader efforts to confront the legacy of residential schools in Canada.
