Robert Maniscalco's 'Identity and Self' Touring Exhibition

Robert Maniscalco has curated a traveling exhibition called 'Identity and Self,' which first opened at the Park Circle Gallery in April 2026 and later expanded for a display at the PSOAE during Spoleto 2026 in Charleston. This exhibition showcases his recent non-commissioned portraits and imaginary realist pieces from his own collection, each questioning the concepts of identity and selfhood. Drawing from his education at Circle in the Square under Terri Hayden, the original Blanche in 'A Streetcar Named Desire,' Maniscalco recalls a pivotal moment when a young actor revealed his sexuality in class, prompting Hayden to ask, 'and what else are you?'—a question that broadened horizons. He critiques how labels like 'survivor of CSA' or 'patriotic' can stifle creativity and personal growth. Maniscalco shares a profound realization of unity with the universe, expressing the sentiment 'WE AS ONE' beyond individual ego. Featured works include 'Reflections on Nothingness,' 'Firefly,' 'The Handoff,' 'Gratitude,' 'See the Light,' and 'Light.' The exhibition is open for museums and art venues for the 2026–27 season. Maniscalco identifies as a 'painter of the self,' pursuing deeper truths beyond mere appearances.
