Robert Lee Davis Reimagines the Myriorama at Latrobe Regional Gallery

exhibition · 2026-10-21

The Latrobe Regional Gallery in Victoria is showcasing "Between the lands of now and then," an exhibition by American-Australian artist Robert Lee Davis from 19 September to 29 November 2026. This exhibition pays homage to the 19th-century Myriorama, a card game featuring interchangeable images, while also presenting a collection of both reimagined and newly created works. These pieces explore mythic and documentary interpretations of human existence in Victoria and Gippsland, influenced by Davis's personal experiences. He acknowledges the impact of Arthur Streeton and Frederick McCubbin from the Heidelberg School as he navigates from urban to rural landscapes. One highlighted piece, "The Endless Landscape" (2025–6), is a mixed-media collage on 15 boards, each 40 by 80cm, made with various materials, courtesy of the artist and the gallery.
