Robert Doisneau's 1961 Cognac Photographs Debut at Rémy Martin
From 18 September 2026 until summer 2027, Maison Rémy Martin presents an exhibition of 65 prints by Robert Doisneau, made during a 1961 photographic reportage in Cognac. The show, titled "Robert Doisneau et Rémy Martin : regard sur le cognac," is installed opposite the historic house in Cognac and marks the first public display of these images, long held in the company's archives. The project was commissioned in 1961 by André Renaud, then head of Rémy Martin, and led to a 1962 photographic book with texts by poet Louise de Vilmorin. That same year, Renaud also asked sculptor Clara Quien to reinterpret the Centaure, the house's historic emblem. The 65 prints honor the reportage's 65th anniversary. Doisneau, known for his humanist Paris street scenes, here turned his lens on the Charente landscapes, cognac trades, and daily life around the house, capturing gestures, faces, and places of the Grande and Petite Champagne terroirs. Amaury Vinclet, CEO of Rémy Martin, said the photographs retain their power and immortalize unique savoir-faire, calling the exhibition a chance to promote the terroir and cognac internationally during the bicentennial of photography. In parallel, Rémy Martin launches "Nouveaux regards sur Rémy Martin," a photography competition open to amateurs and professionals worldwide, with details on social media (@Remymartin) and the company website. The exhibition opens on European Heritage Days. Robert Doisneau lived 1912–1994.
