Rob Hann's Colorful Road Trip Photography Captures America's Quirky Landscapes

Photographer Rob Hann, known for his portraits of celebrities like Tom Hanks, David Byrne, and Willem Dafoe, has spent over three decades documenting America's roadside oddities and remote places. His subjects include handmade signs, vintage buildings, and peculiar attractions such as trees covered in shoes. Hann also captures site-specific artworks like Nancy Holt's "Sun Tunnels" (1973-76) in Utah's Great Basin Desert and Magda Sayeg's crocheted camper at El Cosmico in Marfa, Texas. He shoots primarily with an analog Mamiya 7, recently adding a Hasselblad X2D digital camera. Hann emphasizes discipline in his shooting, using only one fixed lens and one film stock. After initially struggling with color photography, he now embraces its emotive potential. A new book titled "Wonder Valley" is forthcoming from The Artist Edition later this year.
