Road Movie Exhibition Bridges Korea and Japan's Troubled History
To mark 60 years of diplomatic relations, the MMCA in Gwacheon has launched an exhibition called 'Road Movie: Art between Korea and Japan Since 1945,' in partnership with the Yokohama Museum of Art. This showcase, which is open until September 27, delves into how artists have dealt with post-colonial issues since 1945. It features works like Nam Hwayeon's video 'Imjingawa,' contributions from Jung Yeondoo and Koki Tanaka, and highlights the 1992 exhibition 'Nakamura and Murakami.' The final section includes Tanaka’s 2018 piece 'Vulnerable Histories (A Road Movie).' Curator Jeon Yushin emphasized how these artists manage to push past divisions, even amidst existing tensions, and recognized recent cultural partnerships.
