Richard Provencio Discusses His Multidisciplinary Practice and New Publications
Richard Provencio, an artist based in San Diego and known as richard richard richards, was recently featured in an interview with Lenscratch. His work encompasses street, documentary, and autobiographical photography, with a particular emphasis on books and zines. His latest publication, ric pics, Vol. 1, Loosey Goosey, showcases 100 of his favorite photographs from the past year. Provencio likens his creative process to "playing jazz with the universe," a sentiment inspired by Virginia Heckert. Drawing inspiration from skateboarding and comedy, he seeks to stimulate reflection. In collaboration with Louise Russell, he co-manages Present Tense through Medium Photo, where he is also a board member. After shifting from CPA to documentary photography in 2019, he grew disenchanted with news photojournalism, valuing community engagement and visual literacy in his varied projects.
