Ricardo Luevanos' 'The Sky Promised Nothing' Opens at Diesel Art Gallery, Tokyo

Mexican artist Ricardo Luevanos presents his first solo exhibition in Asia, 'The Sky Promised Nothing,' at Diesel Art Gallery in Tokyo from July 25 to September 23, 2026. The show features a site-specific installation centered on a broken ladder rising from the ground, with its first steps missing, symbolizing the impossibility of initial ascent. Around this absence, a chair, suspended platform, and pedestal offer alternative steps, suggesting new possibilities beyond limitation. Bird sculptures suspended throughout the space contrast human longing with avian freedom, while portraits with hidden faces and hand-painted text works explore memory, identity, and hope. Luevanos, based in Guadalajara, works across digital drawing, mixed media, painting, sculpture, and installation, creating poetic visual narratives that delve into longing, nostalgia, and the human desire to transcend limitations. His work has been featured in solo museum exhibitions in Mexico and includes official artwork for international film festivals.
