RH Opens Stunning Design Gallery in 18th-Century Palladian Mansion in Mayfair
American luxury design brand RH has opened a new gallery in a Palladian mansion at 7 Burlington Gardens, Mayfair, London. Designed by Venetian architect Giacomo Leoni in 1721, the building is one of the few surviving 18th-century Palladian residences in London. The restoration and redesign were led by Foster + Partners, preserving historic features such as the Grand Stair and ceilings by master stuccoist Joseph Rose, while adding a transparent panoramic elevator and a ridged skylight. Spanning over 5,000 square meters across five levels, the space includes an interior design studio, the Architecture & Design Library with rare texts including a 1521 Italian edition of Vitruvius's De Architectura and a 1715 English edition of Palladio translated by Leoni. The former Bank of England building on site has become the Treasury Restaurant (136 seats, views of Savile Row, Roman-style columns, Venetian glass chandeliers), while the Perch Bar & Restaurant offers a secret garden terrace. A 360-degree holographic art installation anchors the World of RH Lounge. RH, founded in 1979 by Stephen Godon (CEO Gay Friedman), now operates similar galleries in historic buildings in New York, Paris, and Milan. The London store introduces the RH Estates collection to the UK.
