Reza Raeisifar's Keker Collection Turns Discarded Aluminum Blinds into Modular Lighting
Designer Reza Raeisifar has created the Keker Collection, a modular lighting system that repurposes discarded aluminum Venetian blind slats. The project began in 2018 when Raeisifar found an old blind in a storage space and explored its reuse potential. It developed further through an invitation to design lighting for the Afarinesh project at Shiraz University. The system shifts the slats' function from controlling incoming light to directing and diffusing artificial light. The first iteration uses three laser-cut acrylic sheets as a structural framework, with longitudinally cut slats inserted into grooves, creating a repeated modular arrangement. An energy-efficient LED source at the center distributes light 360 degrees, while curved slats conceal the source and produce changing light and shadow patterns. The construction allows for various configurations, including pendant, linear, ceiling, wall-mounted, and floor-standing versions. The first iteration was shown in 2019 at Ordibehesht Gallery in Tehran, and in 2025, the full collection was presented at Design Gallery One in Tehran. Photographers Navid Atrvash and Arash Akhtaran documented the works.
