Reverend Jim Cotter's Legacy as LGBTQ+ Advocate and Liturgical Innovator

Reverend Jim Cotter (1942-2014) was an Anglican pastor, poet, and co-founder of the Gay and Lesbian Christian Movement in the UK. He advocated for LGBTQ+ inclusion within Christianity, rewriting liturgical texts to reflect modern concerns. Cotter served as chaplain at Cambridge's Caius College in the 1970s and later established Cairns Publications, producing nearly 30 works. His revised version of the Lord's Prayer appears in the Anglican Church of New Zealand's prayer book. In 2008, he faced reprimand from the Archbishop of Wales for blessing a same-sex civil partnership. Cotter also created a network of small pilgrimage churches and spent his final years in Llandudno, where the local museum is now collecting LGBTQ+ histories.
