Renowned Marine Biologist and Museum Director Frank Talbot Dies at 94

Professor Frank Talbot AM, a prominent marine biologist and former director of the Australian Museum and Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, has died at age 94. Talbot led the Australian Museum from 1966 to 1975, establishing the Lizard Island Research Station on the Great Barrier Reef in 1973. He also served as director of the Smithsonian's natural history museum in Washington D.C. from 1989 to 1994 and as executive director of the California Academy of Sciences. Talbot was recognized for his pioneering coral reef research and his efforts to expand museum research capabilities and public engagement with science. The Australian Museum hosts an annual lecture series named in his honor.
