René Schneider Park: Nature-Based Solutions in Antofagasta
In 2025, CAW Arquitectos finalized the development of René Schneider Park, located in the Las Brisas area of Antofagasta, Chile. Spanning 13,500 m², the park is positioned at the base of the Coast Range, characterized by steep inclines, high solar exposure, low precipitation, dominant winds, and unstable sandy soils susceptible to landslides. The design incorporates Nature-Based Solutions, utilizing vegetation as a dynamic infrastructure to stabilize slopes, offer shade, manage water resources, and reestablish connections between the degraded land and the surrounding community. The project was led by architects Rodrigo Werner and Juan Pablo Cacciuttolo, with photography contributions from Rodrigo Werner.
