Reed Hilderbrand to Lead Revitalization of Boston's Christopher Columbus Park and Long Wharf
Boston has selected Reed Hilderbrand, a landscape architecture firm located in Cambridge, to revamp Christopher Columbus Park and Long Wharf along the North End waterfront of Boston Harbor. In partnership with Agency Landscape and Planning and Weston & Sampson, they will enhance the 4.5-acre area to serve as both a public space and a storm protection system. Since its establishment in the 1970s, the park has functioned as a venue for festivals, a memorial, a playground, and a promenade. Reed Hilderbrand's vision includes developing a resilient and accessible green area that strengthens connections to the harbor. The project, overseen by the Boston Parks and Planning Departments, will involve a 14-month planning phase with community input, addressing the site's vulnerability due to its low elevation, in line with the 2018 "Resilient Boston Harbor" initiative.
