Record-Breaking Pharaohs Exhibition in Rome Heads to US Tour

The 'Treasures of the Pharaohs' exhibition, which drew over 400,000 visitors at Rome's Scuderie del Quirinale from October 24, 2025 to June 14, 2026, will tour the United States. Curated by Tarek El Awady with catalog and guides by Zahi Hawass, the show featured artifacts from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and the Luxor Museum, some never before exhibited outside Egypt. The US tour begins at the de Young Museum in San Francisco (August 1, 2026 – January 31, 2027), then moves to the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth (March 14 – September 19, 2027). All 130 artifacts from Rome will travel, including pieces from the 'City of Gold' of Amenhotep III discovered by Hawass in 2021, making their North American debut. The exhibition is co-organized by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Kimbell Art Museum, Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Supreme Council of Antiquities, Ales S.p.A., and MondoMostre. Simone Todorow, CEO of MondoMostre, highlighted the educational impact, noting 60,000 student visitors in Rome, 40,000 from primary schools. 20% of visitors were under 30, with 60% from Rome and Lazio and 40% from elsewhere. The show presents six thematic sections covering court life, daily life, religion, and the afterlife, featuring highlights like the sarcophagus of Psusennes I, the Gold Fly Necklace, the sarcophagus of Tuya, and the gold funerary mask of Amenemope.
