Rashid Johnson and Sheree Hovsepian Launch No-Deliverable Residency in Menorca

Rashid Johnson and Sheree Hovsepian have founded the Residency at Casa Gràcia in Mahón, Menorca, a program that offers studio space, a study, and a walled garden with no requirement to produce work or hold public presentations. Supported by Hauser & Wirth Menorca, the residency prioritizes unstructured time over outcomes. The 1860 building, once a nightclub, is being renovated by Laplace and Maimó&Brosa. Three visual artists (up to three months) and two writers (up to six months) are hosted annually. Applications for 2027 close 31 July 2026. The advisory board includes Katherine Brinson, Patrick Radden Keefe, Colson Whitehead, Hank Willis Thomas, and Iwan and Manuela Wirth. An inaugural season in fall 2026 will host a grant recipient from the Institut Menorquí d'Estudis, supported by Es Baluard Museum and Hauser & Wirth Menorca. Johnson's 2025 Guggenheim retrospective 'A Poem for Deep Thinkers' contextualizes the residency as a counterweight to productivity.
